    Movement Obstacle Course

    30 minutes
    Small Groups (3-4 children)
    Physical

    Learning Objectives

    • Develop gross motor skills
    • Practice following sequences
    • Learn to take turns patiently
    • Experience physical challenges safely

    Preparation

    • Set up obstacle course with 5-6 stations
    • Test course for safety and appropriate difficulty
    • Mark start and finish lines
    • Prepare demonstration of each obstacle

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1. 1
      Gather children to see obstacle course
    2. 2
      Demonstrate each station: hop through hoops, crawl under rope, etc.
    3. 3
      Explain taking turns and cheering for others
    4. 4
      Start with one group while others watch
    5. 5
      Encourage effort and celebrate completion
    6. 6
      Let each child go through 2-3 times
    7. 7
      Modify obstacles for different abilities
    8. 8
      End with group celebration of everyone's efforts

    Materials Needed

    • Cones
    • Hoops
    • Ropes
    • Soft mats
    • Bean bags
    • Chalk for marking

    Assessment

    • Child attempts each obstacle
    • Child takes turns appropriately
    • Child shows good sportsmanship
    • Child demonstrates improved coordination
