    Animal Care Role-Play

    Survival Needs

    Dramatic Play

    Learning Objective

    Recognize basic animal survival needs through interactive role-play

    Materials Needed

    • Toy animals (goats, chickens, rabbits, fish)
    • Small bowls for food and water
    • Toy water bottles
    • Cardboard boxes for 'shelters'
    • Play food items
    • Dress-up clothes (farmer hats, aprons)

    Preparation

    1. 1Set up dramatic play area with farm/pet care theme
    2. 2Arrange animals and care materials
    3. 3Prepare simple role-play scenarios
    4. 4Have pictures of local farmers caring for animals

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1. 1Introduce the role-play: 'We are going to take care of animals'
    2. 2Demonstrate feeding, giving water, and providing shelter
    3. 3Children take turns being farmers/pet owners
    4. 4Discuss how local farmers care for goats, hens, or rabbits
    5. 5Ask: 'What does this animal need to be happy and healthy?'
    6. 6Encourage caring, gentle behavior with toy animals

    Assessment

    • Does the child demonstrate understanding of animal needs?
    • Can the child role-play caring behaviors?
    • Does the child show empathy for animals?

    Extensions

    • Invite a local farmer or pet owner to demonstrate real care routines
    • Visit a local farm or petting area
