    How Can We Help? Chart

    Environmental Stewardship

    Learning Objective

    Brainstorm actions to protect plants and animals in our community

    Materials Needed

    • Large chart paper
    • Markers in different colors
    • Pictures showing environmental problems and solutions
    • Sticky notes
    • Stickers for voting

    Preparation

    1. 1Prepare chart with headings: 'Problems' and 'How We Can Help'
    2. 2Gather pictures showing environmental issues and solutions
    3. 3Think of age-appropriate examples
    4. 4Set up comfortable discussion area

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1. 1Discuss problems: littering, cutting trees, harming animals
    2. 2Ask: 'How can we help solve these problems?'
    3. 3Record children's ideas on the chart
    4. 4Encourage specific, doable actions: 'Put trash in bins', 'Be gentle with animals'
    5. 5Let children vote on which actions they want to try first
    6. 6Make commitments: 'Our class promises to...'

    Assessment

    • Can the child identify environmental problems?
    • Does the child suggest realistic solutions?
    • Does the child show commitment to helping?

    Extensions

    • Turn chart into a class pledge with signatures
    • Create action plan with specific steps
    • Make posters to share ideas with other classes
    • Check progress on commitments weekly
