    Protect Our Island Song

    Environmental Stewardship

    Learning Objective

    Reinforce environmental stewardship through Caribbean-themed music

    Materials Needed

    • Simple percussion instruments (drums, maracas, shakers)
    • Song lyrics on chart paper
    • Caribbean music for inspiration
    • Scarves or ribbons for movement

    Preparation

    1. 1Create simple call-and-response song: 'Don't cut the trees, please, please' / 'Keep the rivers clean, yes, yes'
    2. 2Practice the melody and rhythm
    3. 3Prepare instruments for children to use
    4. 4Set up space for movement

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1. 1Teach the song with Caribbean rhythm and style
    2. 2Add call-and-response: teacher calls, children respond
    3. 3Create verses about protecting different parts of the environment
    4. 4Add instruments and movement
    5. 5Children suggest new verses about caring for nature
    6. 6End with commitment: 'We will take care of our beautiful island'

    Assessment

    • Does the child participate enthusiastically in singing?
    • Can the child remember key environmental messages?
    • Does the child suggest appropriate protective actions?

    Extensions

    • Perform for parents or at school assembly
    • Create movements that show environmental care
