    Historical and Cultural Thinking Activities

    Engaging hands-on activities that help students explore slavery and emancipation, East Indian Caribbean cultures, and the role of arts and sports in fostering regional unity and identity.

    Slavery in the Caribbean

    Picture/Video Inferencing

    45 minutes

    Students analyze images of Emancipation Day celebrations through guided observation and discussion, building understanding of freedom and its meaning to different people.

    Story Mapping

    60 minutes

    Teams research and create story maps showing how European abolitionists and enslaved Africans contributed to emancipation, then combine findings into a classroom timeline.

    Timeline Gaming

    50 minutes

    Interactive gaming experience using milestone cards and digital tools to sequence major events in the struggle for emancipation, culminating in a physical classroom timeline.

    40 minutes

    Students analyze "One Caribbean Nation" by Grantley Ipa Constance, exploring themes of unity and cooperation while discussing the importance of regional collaboration.

    Regional Activities Organizer

    60 minutes

    Groups research regional activities like Cricket, Carnival, and CARIFTA Games using the 5 W's + 1 H framework, then present findings to demonstrate regional cooperation.

    Biography Research Project

    120 minutes (multiple sessions)

    Multi-session project where students research influential Caribbean figures across music, sports, and politics, creating presentations that highlight regional and international impact.

    Community Engagement Showcase

    2-3 hours (extended event)

    Culminating community event where students showcase their learning through performances, demonstrations, and interactions with community members, celebrating Caribbean cultural icons.
